Sunday Donuts at Meg's

We had our first donut-making party at Meg's this Sunday. It was a lazy day of deep fried delights. Meg supplied the endless pot of coffee, deep fryer, and oil, and we brought the spices and good cheer.

We started off with a beignet mix from the infamous Cafe De Monde. They were delicate little pillows dusted with powdered sugar, and tasted even better with a little cinnamon and honey. After digesting those for a while, we embarked on our second batch. This time, we followed a recipe that came with Meg's ancient deep fryer. They were glazed cake donuts which were amazing. We cooked the donut holes first as a test batch. The donuts themselves were rich and sweet with a hint of cinnamon. The outsides were golden brown and crispy, the insides were light and crumbly, and the glaze added the necessary stickiness. It was an amazing day.
